Chinese restaurants in the United States range from steam-table lunch counters to white-tablecloth Cantonese seafood halls, and most fall somewhere in between: a laminated menu, a lunch special board, and combo plates priced a few dollars below the dinner menu. Ordering by number off the menu is normal and speeds things up, especially at takeout counters. Family-style ordering, where a table shares several dishes with rice rather than each person getting an individual entree, is standard at sit-down spots and usually cheaper per person. Many neighborhood restaurants are cash-preferred or charge a small card fee, so it is worth asking or checking the door before you order. Delivery apps cover most areas, but calling the restaurant directly is often faster and avoids the markup.

Hours are published for 6 days a week. The most common schedule is 11 am–9 pm. Note that it does not open on Monday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach New Sichuan at (336) 842-3418; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Its website is newsichuannc.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

Winston-Salem is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. New Sichuan Restaurant is one of the better places in the Triad if you're looking for authentic Sichuan cuisine. The menu has a great mix of familiar Chinese dishes alongside more traditional regional specialties, and it's clear the restaurant isn't afraid to lean into bold, spicy flavors. The ambiance is cozy. It looks like they turned an old Biscuitville into the dining space, which is quite charming. We ordered quite a few dishes, including the steamed soup dumplings, ox tongue and tripe with chili sauce, Singapore mei fun, intestine with chili pepper, mapo tofu, kung pao chicken, and the intestine noodle. Everything was well prepared, but the standout was how the restaurant balances more "American Chinese" flavors while also staying true to some more traditional chinese flavors as well. The chili-forward dishes had plenty of heat without overpowering the other flavors, and each dish had its own distinct character. The ox tongue and tripe appetizer and the intestine dishes were great options if you're looking to try something a little more traditional. The portions were generous, making it a great place to order several dishes and share with the table. If you're used to America

The service was good. I got the sesame chicken and it was good. Nice and crispy coating. Like sauce which was sweet in taste. But I never saw any sesame seeds anywhere in the plate or in the dish. It came with rice. I asked for fried rice and got white rice instead. I ordered sweet tea but it was terrible! It tasted like the stuff that comes in a glass bottle and you pour it in a pitcher and delete it with water. They did change it out for Dr. Pepper. My grandson got the chicken and broccoli with the white rice. He did enjoy it.

I have now eaten at New Sichuan three times. My opinion is that New Sichuan is the best authentic and Americanized Chinese food in Winston-Salem and I have tried lots. The place is spotless with a near perfect sanitation record. The service is quick and friendly. The food is served quickly. On our most recent visit my son had Beef with Diced Hot pepper which he judged to be very good. If you like Americanized Chinese food I can highly recommend their General Tso's Chicken. It is a huge portion and it is likely the best that I have ever eaten. The egg rolls are served piping hot. General's Chicken, an egg roll, water and tip comes to just over $20.00. I highly recommend New Sichuan. The rice even sticks together so you can eat it with a chopstick.

I have been to this place a few times, and never happened to write a review, and I am now writing those previous wrongs. I really enjoy this small eatery; looks can be deceiving. It may look like an old Biscuitville, and it is, but do not let that keep you away from this delicious cuisine. This time, I got the crispy fried chicken, spicy garlic sauce, and my partner got Orange chicken. The spring rolls were okay – but – still not bad, the entrees most certainly outweighed the less-than-amazing appetizer. Both dishes came out quickly – and were served with fried rice. The taste was great, and they took great care to plate the food as well. We did have to wait a bit to get a seat on a Friday night, but it is well worth it for the quality of the food you get here. I will definitely be back and happy to try more of the delicious menu.

Discovered this gem in Winston-Salem and was blown away. We ordered Crab Rangoon, Pork soup dumplings, Spicy wontons, Dan Dan noodles and Chicken and Broccoli. Everything was delicious. Service was warm and quick.
